In Shows for Extinction we explore the existence of a coming catastrophic event. It is an „extinction“ in its concrete meaning and a metaphor for the extinction of the human ego. Taking inspiration from Isabelle Stengers work, we propose a process in which (ideally) identities are dissolved, and hence fixed attributions as human-animal / human nonhuman are turned into mobile relations. The accent is on becoming, on the transformation of body and form. Could this process of a shedding of one’s own humanness towards a transformation and deterritorialization generate new forms of animism, and be a way of decolonising patterns of thinking?
In 2021 we had a production residency at Riksteatern in Hallunda, Stockholm, where we had a live online work in progress showing. Collaborating with us was composer Cha Blasco, director, light and sound designer Eric Sjögren and filmmaker Petra Koppla Dahlberg. We received valued feedback from dance artist Majula Drammeh.
Shows for Extinction is planned to premiere in 2024 and to be shown at WUK Performing Arts Vienna, Ställbergs gruva, Vitlycke – Center for Performing Arts, in Gothenburg and at No Estacionarse, Danza en Movimiento in Querétaro, México. The work is co-produced by WUK Performing Arts Vienna and has received support from Riksteatern, BMKÖS Vienna and Västra Götaland Regional Council.
